As part of our mission to reduce recidivism in the jail, we've partnered with our food service provider, Aramark, to teach food service skills to inmates through their education program In2Work.
Last week four of our inmates graduated from the six-week program. As part of the program inmates had to pass the SafeServe certification. The average passing score is about 80 percent. All four of our graduates passed at 90 percent or higher.
For the graduation we invited not only people in the corrections and judicial system, but also community leaders and business owners. When released these four graduates are employable in the food service industry, providing them a means to earn income after their sentences are fulfilled.
Following the ceremony the graduates treated those in attendence to some of their culinary skills serving prime beef sliders, chicken Alfredo and homemade banana pudding.
We are looking forward to other future work-release programs with our community partners. By engaging in private-public partnerships we will be able to assist our inmates in education, trade skills and employment.
Special thanks to Aramark and facility manager Craig Cargill for bringing this program to our jail and supporting our mission to reduce recidivism. Also thanks to Chef James and Mr. Blue for teaching the program!
