July 2, 2024
We know many of our residents enjoy the festivities from the Fourth of July. In Florida, statute 791.08 allows fireworks to be used without a permit on July 4 (not tonight, not tomorrow night and not July 5). However, that comes with provisions as well such as local ordinances and weather conditions.
Fireworks injure more than 10,000 people annually in the US and Canada. Here are some tips to help keep all your fingers this holiday.
Never hold lit fireworks in your hand.
Never use fireworks if under the influence of alcohol (or drugs)
Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby
Do not point fireworks at another person
Soak spent fireworks in water
Never try to relight or handle a firework that malfunctioned.
Please be courteous of neighbors, some pets and people are frightened or have anxiety with loud noises and some people have work in the morning.
There are two professional fireworks shows on July 4 in Putnam County. Interlachen and Palatka both have firework shows in the evening after nightfall.
Have fun this Independence Day!
